7/17/2022 Development Update (Build 10 will be the Build to end all Builds)


Hello,

Time to delay Build 10 again. Hoping to have it ready in September.

Unless some miracle happens, then I won’t be able to make my Xenoblade 3 deadline. The script is almost done. Most of what I have, BadAim has gone through already. I am 75% done with the second to last scene and then I have the pan-ultimate scene of Build 10 to write. I think I can finish the second to last scene on 7/18/2022 before I go to work and then finish the script completely on my day off on 7/19/2022.

Yep, I’m back to having only one day off again at my IRL job. Well every other week according to my Assistant Boss. Which is going to make organizing things with DomaFox even harder. I also might be changing jobs in the coming months so with how massive Build 10 is, everything in my life culminating together with Xenoblade 3, is why I am delaying Build 10 to September. I don’t want to rush this out since this going to be last bit of IBWHIP people are going to be playing for a long long time.

Oh, you what to know, how massive it is? Well, the Google Doc for Build 10 is at 49,000 words. Google Docs inflates my script numbers a lot because I have pre-programming, text-tags and interpolation which Google Docs counts. For example Googles Docs counts this as seven words while Ren’Py counts it as two words:

ko "Birthday{b}s{/b}, [persistent.Dwain]."

So I decided to quickly put my script into Ren’Py to figure out a more accurate word count and the results were 38,000 words, which is way more than I expected it to be. I was thinking it would be cut down by 33% at minimum so I wasn’t expecting a 22.5% reduction instead. This means that by the time I finish the script completely in Ren’Py, the engine will be telling me that IBWHIP in total is about an eighth of a million words long. Let me explain what’s to come with Build 10 so don’t look as bonkers as I probably do right now.

  • All of Day 8
  • 38,000 words probably going to be somewhere in the early 40,000’s by the time I am finished with the script.
  • CG 15–20
  • Minigame 2, 3 & 4
    • You can breakup at ANY time during minigame 2 & 4.
      • Minigame 2 is completely programed. It uses a public code that I had to update and improve from almost a decade and a half ago.
      • Minigame 3 is almost done. It uses a code from https://www.patreon.com/KiaAzad/posts. I became a Patron to use the creator’s code and improve and make it more code-generated-asset dependent.
      • Minigame 4 hasn’t been programmed but it’s a very simple minigame that I think I can program from scratch with my abilities and skills.
  • 10’th, 11’th, 12’th, 13’th, 14’th, 15’th and 16’th Choices
  • 10’th, 11’th, 12’th, 13’th, 14’th and 15’th Endings
    • These six endings will make up about 10,000 of the word count.
      • I hope this is enough pain to last y’all during the planned Hiatus.

I meant the title of this DevLog when I wrote it. I’ll probably tweet out the final numbers for Google Docs and Ren’Py when I have the dialogue, choices and minigames fully coded into Ren’py.

Build 10 has exploded into a monster that I need to overcome.

Once I come back from my Planned Hiatus and my life is more where I want it to be, I think I am going to make Day 9 completely linear and like a tenth the size of Day 8 at max.

I have not played this new update nor have I played the rewritten version of Chapter 1. I have played early versions of Chapters 2–4-ish with the creator on the FVN Server and I really did enjoy what I played especially since my first experience with the project’s first chapter left a lot to be desired which has been fixed.

Probably going to 5-Star it on itch.io in a few days. Don’t want to overwhelm my followers.
